Despite playing an important role in the restoration of judges in March 2009, the image of the legal community has been badly affected due to a high number strikes and incidents where large groups have displayed an alarming level of rowdy and violent behaviour. Even the justice system seems to have been taken hostage by them.
In cases where one lawyer has displayed violent behaviour, several others have often banded with him. In cases where a lawyer has been arrested for said violent behaviour, hundreds of others have tried to foil arrest attempts, protested outside courts and taken to streets in strike attempts. The scenes often resemble more closely to those of thug-like street gangs rather than upstanding citizens in charge of upholding and protecting the law. ....

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday ordered suspension of the licences of 21 lawyers for ransacking the chamber of Chief Justice Athar Minallah during a protest against the demolition of their alleged illegal chambers at the Islamabad District Courts last month.
A three-member bench presided by Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case. We are of the opinion that the 21 respondents arrayed in the complaint in hand had committed grave acts of indiscipline and misconduct on the 8th of February, 2021, an order of IHC issued today read. ....

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Lawyers rallied from Islamabad district courts to D-Chowk for the release of lawyers arrested for attacking IHC building. The protesters have given authorities a 48-hours ultimatum to accept their demands.
The rally conducted by Islamabad Bar Council originated from Islamabad District Courts and consisted of lawyers from the twin-cities. The rally began from Jinnah Avenue and reached D-Chowk with lawyers chanting slogans on the occasion.
Lawyers demanded that the arrested lawyers be released and FIRs against them be withdrawn. They have also asked for the demolished chambers to be rebuilt. They said that if their demands are not met within 48 hours, they will gather at D-Chowk once again and announce the next course of action. ....

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah reprimanded the police on Friday for not taking action against the lawyers involved in the high court s February 8 rampage, saying he wants the real culprits to be named.
Two days ago, the Islamabad High Court chief justice termed the lawyers hooliganism a disgrace for the entire legal fraternity as well as an attack on the judiciary itself.
What is going on and who is doing all of this, Justice Minallah asked the deputy commissioner and added, who is harassing other, professional lawyers. ....

ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) resumed work on Wednesday with a large contingent of security personnel protecting the premises, three days after lawyers rampaged through the judicial compound.
The IHC Bar, on the other hand, called for a complete strike ad announced a boycott of the court, saying that action would be taken against any lawyer who appeared in any court.
During a hearing of the case, the lawyers rampage was mentioned.
Justice Amir Farooq said that the attack is a “reflection of what we have become. We need to think seriously about what we have become”. ....
