Austin drive-in movie theaters: Where to find in Central Texas

Austin 360 Recently, American-Statesman subscribers read about the boom for drive-in theaters over the past year. With the coronavirus pandemic shuttering indoor cinemas for long stretches of time, the socially distant form of entertainment was a life line. Black Pumas at Stubb s in Austin: Review of Colors band s sold-out show

Austin 360 If you’ve wondered if it’s possible to socially distance at a sold-out Stubb’s show: The answer is no, not really.  Wednesday was a steamy night, with temperatures lingering in the 80s well after the sun went down. And for the first large, full-capacity concert in downtown Austin since March 2020, just a few folks lingered near the very back of the amphitheater, where it was almost possible to maintain a bit of space between strangers. The vast majority of the roughly 2,000 Black Pumas fans who snagged tickets for the first night of a historic run of five sold-out shows at the largest venue in the Red River Cultural District packed in shoulder to shoulder, jockeying for a good position to see the red-hot Austin soul band whose stratospheric rise has continued despite the coronavirus pandemic.

A Quiet Place Part II movie review: A pseudo-pandemic film in disguise

Austin 360 When I went to see “A Quiet Place Part II” in theaters, I thought I had finally found a temporary escape from pandemic life. For so long, I have been looking for a quiet place to watch a movie, free of internet lags and roommates talking in the background. With my phone turned off, I could take a breather from endless news notifications. But alas, things didn t feel so different. Even though the film was finished before COVID-19 death tolls and anxiety were our daily reality   A Quiet Place Part II  premiered in New York City on March 8, 2020, days before nationwide shutdowns  I proceeded to watch an entire film that felt like it was about the pandemic, just disguised as an alien thriller sequel.
