The entire black community was burned to the ground so the only what sparked that riot . A young black man who was accused of assaulting, a sexually assaulting a white woman in an elevator. He had been acquitted. But the White Community felt justice had not been served. And that most of the white people felt all the blocks should be taught a lesson. Although he had been in jail and was being accused of this crime. The white people said they would get him out of jail and commit the kind of harm to him that would teach all the black people in the community a lesson. I want to show you theyve got a backhoe right now because they are trying to move a piece of equipment into that massive hole that actually was partially formed by the water mane break this morning. They are still trying to pump water out of that hole so that they can do some of the repairs. Let me go ahead and show you some pictures that one of the residents who lives nearby here eric burton shared with me just a little while ago. You can see this morning these pictures were shot around 3 00. He says his wife was just coming home, and she noticed that water was all over the street. Its called ifland avenue. There were lots of cars that were submerged in that water. One of the cars was even partially inside the sink hole that formed as this water mane broke.
