Trial begins for 24-year-old accused of killing Thibodaux man If convicted, Tremell Batiste of Napoleonville faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Jury selection was underway Monday in the trial of a suspect accused of killing a Thibodaux man in 2017. Tremell Batiste, 24, of Napoleonville, was indicted in 2018 on a second-degree murder charge. He is accused of fatally shooting 30-year-old Chansie White Nov. 15, 2017, on Ridgefield Road in Thibodaux. If convicted, Batiste faces a mandatory life prison sentence without parole, probation or early release. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Heather Hendrix, and Batiste is being represented by court-appointed attorney Ivan Thompson. ....
