Man convicted in Thibodaux slaying A Lafourche Parish jury convicted a Napoleonville man Wednesday in the killing of a Thibodaux resident in 2017. Tremell Batiste, 24, was convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting 30-year-old Chansie White on Ridgefield Road in Thibodaux. Following a three-day trial, the jury handed down its unanimous decision after about 90 minutes of deliberation. Batiste now faces a mandatory life prison sentence without parole, probation or early release. The shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Nov. 15, 2017.
