Living in infamy for the foreseeable future, 2020 was quite the year. And like pretty much everything, 72 Hours did not avoid its wrath. On March 26, the weekly publication ran for the last time as a separate tabloid, getting smaller and thinner in the weeks leading up to the eventual switch to the broadsheet form readers have seen in the paper for the past nine months. It made sense. COVID-19 put a hard and fast stop to all in-person events and a countywide shutdown that made even going to restaurants and bars completely out of the question. There was no need for a multi-page publication letting people know what was going on around town, as pretty much nothing was going on â at least not in person. ....
On East Second Street, inside a large red brick building, parishioners of Covenant Family Chapel used to meet regularly in a celebration of Christianity. Now, the congregation has moved to Woodsboro, and the Frederick Arts Council and other community partners have taken over the space. A projector and stage, along with space for artists, is on the first floor. Photographer Wing Young Huieâs large-scale photo exhibit, Golden MileâIn Focus, inspired area residents to bring their family items, including an old chair, clothes and other random objects. In this file photo, a group poses with signs displaying various messages during a workshop last winter in March at Centro Hispano de Frederick. The photo is one of nearly 20 that was enlarged and put on display on exteriors of buildings along the Golden Mile as part of a public art project.
