Designed D&H railroad route northward Tri-County Independent CARBONDALE – Bryce R. Blair served as City Engineer for Carbondale, Pa. in the late 19th century. One of his projects apart from this role was designing the Jefferson Branch of the Erie Railroad which connected Carbondale s rail hub to Lanesboro and beyond. News reports in May 1869 stated that work of building the Jefferson Branch Railroad has commenced, under the supervision of Bryce R. Blair, Jr., chief engineer. The distance was 37 miles, extending a rail connection north from Carbondale through Forest City, to Lanesboro (which is next to Susquehanna). The Delaware & Hudson (D&H) Canal Company furnished the funds. The Erie directed the construction and both equipped and operated the road when it was finished. ....
