On International Women s Day, an Alliance Air all-women crew operated the inaugural Delhi-Bareilly flight. The flight landed at the recently constructed Bareilly Airport, Uttar Pradesh and was given a water-cannon salute.
The Trishul Military Airbase in Bareilly was upgraded for commercial flight operations under the government s RCS-UDAN scheme. Feay’s Friendly Service was a long-standing appliance store run by brothers Henry and George Feay in Sioux Falls, but it started in the 1920s as a pair of automotive service stations.
Henry Feay was the oldest child of Oliver and Lena Feay, and George was the youngest. The brothers were born near Klondike, Iowa, west of Rock Rapids on the South Dakota-Iowa border. Oliver farmed in Iowa until 1919, at which point the family moved to Sioux Falls. They bought some farmland in the area of what is now the intersection of Kiwanis Avenue and Madison Street. Oliver and Henry demolished a corn crib on their land and built a service station, calling it West Sioux Garage. ....

At the start of 1941, though the United States had not yet formally entered World War II, the U.S. military was anxious to shore up defenses along the eastern seaboard, which some considered a vulnerable target for a German attack. Early in the year, the Connecticut General Assembly approved the purchase of 1,700 acres of former tobacco farmland in Windsor Locks to lease to the U.S. Army to build a new air base. Because the new base was surrounded by mostly flat, rural farmland, the airfield s engineers utilized a novel camouflage scheme to render it nearly invisible from the air, painting the runways and taxi lanes with a special patchwork pattern mimicking tobacco crops and dirt roads. ....
