Indomaret and Alfamart among top 50 fastest-growing retailers globally

Indonesia’s Indomarco Prismatama (Indomaret) and Sumber Alfaria Trijaya (Alfamart) have been ranked among the top 50 fastest-growing retailers, alongside the Philippines’ SM Investments Corporation and Vietnam’s Mobile World Investment Corporation. According to Deloitte s  Global Powers of Retailing 2021 report, these companies belong to the three categories of convenience/forecourt store, hypermarket/supercentre/superstore, and electronic speciality. 
Globally, Indomaret (183rd) and Alfamart (206th) have been ranked among the top 250 retailers, along with SM Investments Corporation (154th), Mobile World Investment Corporation (235th), and Thailand’s CP ALL (58th) and Central Retail Corporation Public Company (176th)
This result is in line with Deloitte s research which also showed that the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shift in consumption habits as consumers adapt to new ways ....

Retail Industry Experts View 2021 With Caution & Optimism

WASHINGTON, D.C. “As long as the virus is a threat, it will have a negative impact on economic growth,” Deloitte’s Chief Global Economist Ira Kalish said during a session at this year’s completely virtual National Retail Federation (NRF) trade show.
Underlining the extreme impacts of the pandemic, Kalish told the online audience that 2020 was a “year like no other. We saw the sharpest decline ever in real GDP in the second quarter, followed by the sharpest increase in GDP in the third quarter.”
In the midst of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic and the outbreak of a new strain of COVID-19, economic growth is likely to be very slow this year, although a successful rollout of the vaccine could bode well for a robust recovery at the end of this year and into 2022, according to the economist. ....

Walmart chief customer officer on why retail's 'normal' must change


Walmart Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside spoke at the National Retail Federation s Chapter One conference.
Whiteside said that retailers must be prepared to ditch the old normal and meet customers with expedited and diverse fulfillment options.
I would imagine these next 12-to-24 months, people aren t going to quite know: is it normal? Whiteside said.
As the coronavirus pandemic drags on, people around the world are looking forward to returning to some semblance of normalcy. 
But according to Walmart Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside, getting back to a pre-pandemic normal isn t in the cards for most retailers.
