As a country it is important that we all acknowledge that we need to do more to ensure senior Australians are treated with respect, care and dignity and have access to quality care as they age. The Royal Commission’s Final Report recognises the immense effort of our nurses and carers but also brings the challenges of aged care services into clear focus. The Government is committed to transforming aged care and the Royal Commission’s monumental report, with 148 recommendations, delivers a challenging, but achievable road to reform. ....
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand The Green Party are celebrating the Labour Government bringing forward the timeline to ban conversion therapy, and will push to ensure any draft bill properly protects all of our Rainbow communities. “Today it is clear that people power works. Our 150,000 strong petition impressed the urgency felt by New Zealanders that conversion therapy must be banned in Aotearoa as soon as possible”, Green Party Rainbow spokesperson Dr Elizabeth Kerekere said today. “Waiting until the end of the year to introduce legislation was never acceptable. In the time it takes to pass law, that timeline would have meant the practice was legal right up until late 2022. This would have been two more years of torture for our Rainbow community that was entirely avoidable. ....
Date Time Clamping down on abuse of Powers of Attorney The independent South Australian Law Reform Institute (SALRI) based at the University of Adelaide is recommending changes to South Australian law and practice regarding Powers of Attorney. SALRI’s report, handed to the Attorney General today, Tuesday 19 January, makes a suite of recommendations which aim to both promote the use of Powers of Attorney, more formally known as Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPAs), and to prevent their abuse. These include: Educational and operational measures to promote and enhance the use and operation of EPAs and the awareness of misuse, especially amongst ‘vulnerable populations’ such as culturally diverse people, Aboriginal communities and the disability sector ....
LIA hands over food parcels MASERU-THE Lesotho Institute of Accountants (LIA) donated food parcels worth M10 000 to St Angela Cheshire Home for Disabled Children on Tuesday. LIA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Monyaola Mosoloane, said this gesture followed the centre’s plea for help. He also said the initiative was part of their annual social responsibility programme. “We looked into their request and decided to bring it now as Christmas gifts,” Mosoloane said. St Angela’s Administrator, ‘Mamokhosi Thamae, expressed her gratitude for the gifts. “I am really grateful for the gifts as they arrived at the right time when high schools are back to school and it’s Christmas time,” she said. ....
