This report summarises responses to the UK Disability Survey, which were used to inform the National Disability Strategy.
This survey was designed as a vehicle for disabled people, carers of disabled people, and members of the general public with an interest in disability, to share their lived experiences and views.
This survey represented one of a number of ways of engaging with stakeholders used by the Disability Unit to inform the National Disability Strategy.

Government unveils 100 pledges as part of £1.6 billion disability strategy

The Government has unveiled 100 immediate pledges to improve the lives and opportunities of disabled people in a landmark £1.6 billion strategy that has drawn muted responses from charities.
A public awareness campaign to dispel ingrained stereotypes and a taskforce examining the increased costs disabled people face are being promised in the cross-department disability strategy.
The Government will also consult on whether to make it mandatory for employers with 250 or more staff to report on disability in their workforce, after a voluntary scheme did not yield enough data. ....

AMU mourns Prof Khalid Bin Yusuf Khan

Aligarh: Renowned Sanskrit scholar; former Chairman, Department of Sanskrit and currently the Coordinator of the Disability Unit in the university; Professor Khalid Bin Yusuf Khan passed away yesterday after suffering severe pneumonia and cardiac arrest.

“Prof Khalid was a man of many accomplishments, he was a profound researcher and an inspiring teacher. He eloquently spoke Sanskrit”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor.

He added: “Prof Khalid was a gracious, gentle and welcoming presence in the university. His demise is a terrible loss for the AMU community and a personal loss for me”.
