Windsor-Essex residents age 70 and older, and those of all ages who received an mRNA jab on or before March 31, will be able to book an appointment for their second shot starting Saturday at 8 a.m.

But what about those who haven’t received the first dose yet?
Almost 54 per cent of the population in Windsor and Essex County has received the first shot, according to the epidemiological summary. But in four of the seven neighbourhoods that are designated priorities because of socioeconomic challenges and more cases, less than half of residents have had the first dose despite extra vaccine and pop-up clinics.
Only 42.8 per cent of people living downtown have had the first shot. Only 46 per cent of residents on the west side and 46.2 per cent of those in Remington Park and south central Windsor have had their first dose. Leamington is at 49.7 per cent.
As of Wednesday morning, more than 7,000 eligible minors had rolled up their sleeves since May 23, the day the age group became allowed to book vaccine appointments.

Windsor is getting a new COVID-19 vaccination site as of next month, as officials make plans to close two existing sites.

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, which released a multi-day total due to the Victoria Day holiday, 34 new cases were reported on Monday and 16 on Tuesday.
