Pennsylvania Property Owners Encouraged to Purchase Flood Insurance June 2, 2021 Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman is urging property owners to consider purchasing flood insurance to protect their homes, businesses and possessions. For many Pennsylvanians, extreme weather, including flooding caused by hurricanes and severe thunderstorms, can be a common occurrence throughout the state during the summer months, according to a Pennsylvania Insurance Department press release. “Flooding is a threat across all of Pennsylvania during this time of year due to heavy summer storms,” Altman said in the release. “The commonwealth is generally impacted by the high winds and heavy rain that accompany hurricanes, often causing significant damages.”

Gov Wolf and officials provide update following snowstorm

Governor Tom Wolf joined with Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) Director Randy Padfield, PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian, and Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Brent Miller to provide an update following a snowstorm that affected the state. In parts of the state, the storm began Wednesday afternoon and continued until Thursday morning. Gov. Wolf addressed that heavy snowfall created dangerous road conditions. Tragically, at least one of these accidents led to a loss of life, and my heart goes out to all of the victims and their families. You are in our prayers, said Gov. Wolf.

Biggest storm in years greets Pa with 2 feet of snow

Stay at home, officials said Wednesday evening, because this storm was one for the books. A severe snowstorm impacted parts of the country Wednesday into Thursday, and in Pennsylvania, meteorologists said it was the biggest storm in the last few years. In a typical December, Pennsylvanians can expect anywhere between 5 to 8 inches of snow, according to state Meteorologist Jeff Jumper. But like many things with 2020, this isn t a normal December. In some spots, we re predicting over 18 inches to 2 feet of snow, Jumper said. This could be the biggest storm in two to three years. Beaver County saw up to 8 inches in Monaca and Rochester. A little over 5 inches was reported in Ohioville, 6.8 inches in Aliquippa and 6.5 inches in Beaver.
