Region branded with severe outbreak warning

Region branded with severe outbreak warning Lawrence, Beaver and Allegheny counties log high percent positive rates for COVID-19 well above the 5% threshold. Ellwood City Ledger A severe outbreak warning was issued for Lawrence, Beaver and Allegheny counties due to their relatively high percent positive rates for COVID-19. The region is urged to take all possible precautions to avoid exposure as the entire state continues to see an uptick in cases.   The percent positive is a critical measure because it indicates how widespread the infection is in the area where the testing is occurring and whether levels of testing are keeping up with levels of virus transmission. The Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization recommend the threshold for percent positive rate remain below 5%.

Biggest storm in years greets Pa with 2 feet of snow

Stay at home, officials said Wednesday evening, because this storm was one for the books. A severe snowstorm impacted parts of the country Wednesday into Thursday, and in Pennsylvania, meteorologists said it was the biggest storm in the last few years. In a typical December, Pennsylvanians can expect anywhere between 5 to 8 inches of snow, according to state Meteorologist Jeff Jumper. But like many things with 2020, this isn t a normal December. In some spots, we re predicting over 18 inches to 2 feet of snow, Jumper said. This could be the biggest storm in two to three years. Beaver County saw up to 8 inches in Monaca and Rochester. A little over 5 inches was reported in Ohioville, 6.8 inches in Aliquippa and 6.5 inches in Beaver.
