Photo by Roger Jacob A MISBEHAVIOUR charge has been laid against head of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) Insp Mark Hernandez. The charge stems from the deaths of murder suspects Andrew Morris and Joel Balcon who were held during the investigation of the murder of court clerk, Andrea Bharatt, but died in police custody. Hernandez was charged shortly after a High Court judge gave Police Commissioner Gary Griffith until 4.14 pm on Monday, to lay the misbehaviour charge or release him. ....

SORT head Insp Mark Hernandez. - FILE PHOTO/ROGER JACOB ATTORNEYS representing head of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) Insp Mark Hernandez have written to Police Commissioner Gary Griffith, giving him until 4 pm Friday to release Hernandez. They have warned if Griffith fails to do so, they will approach the High Court for a writ of habeas corpus for the commissioner to justify Hernandez’s continued detention. Hernandez has been in custody since about 6.45 am on Wednesday. Attorney Wayne Sturge said he had been “incarcerated in excess of 53 hours, far beyond the reasonable common law limitation for the detention of a citizen without charge.” ....

Mc Donald Jacob - NATIONAL Security Minister Stuart Young on Friday joined his parliamentary colleagues in condemning the Opposition s boycott of the House of Representatives. He did so as he opened debate on a motion to approve a notification of President Paula-Mae Weeks of McDonald Jacob s nomination to be appointed as a deputy police commissioner. Young said Jacob was the first person on the merit list and a career police officer. Also nominated by the Police Service Commission to be appointed as deputy police commissioners were Supt Andre Norton and Special Operations Response Team (SORT) head Insp Mark Hernandez. No motions to approve their nominations were listed on Friday s House Order Paper. ....
