India has told the UN that it has been a victim of terrorism, especially from across the border, over the last several decades and that there are countries "clearly guilty" of aiding, supporting terrorist activities.
India said it desires "normal neighbourly relations" with Pakistan and the onus is on Islamabad to create a conducive atmosphere by taking "credible, verifiable" action to not allow any territory under its control to be used for cross-border terror.
The increasing tendency to politicise humanitarian situations is unfortunate, India has said at the UN, stressing that nations must resist linking developmental aid with progress in the political process as this will only enhance food insecurity in conflict situations. Speaking at the UNSC open debate on Conflict and Food Security on Thursday, India s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador T S Tirumurti said there was an urgent need for the donor community to scale up assistance to conflict-affected countries, and to ensure that humanitarian agencies receive the necessary funding to fully execute their plans without politicisation of basic needs of the people.
