Manchester to rehab chime bells | Schools | The Journal Gazette

An iconic fixture on Manchester University s campus will be removed next month for restoration so it can sound again for its 100th anniversary next year.
The Verdin Co. of Cincinnati is tasked with the Manchester Chime project, which includes removal of 10 bronze bells from the Administration Building tower Aug. 9 to 11, the university said in a news release.
Along with refurbishing the bells, which range in weight from 550 to 2,650 pounds, work includes creating four bells and installing a new open bell tower next spring or summer in the middle of the Manchester University Mall, the release said.
Alumni and others raised $8,700 in the early 1920s to buy the original chime, and its players – mostly students – pushed hand levers in a drafty room directly below the bells, even in winter, the release said. ....

Indiana is blessed with several strong co-ops spread around the state. Some thought the farm co-operative model was no longer viable several decades ago when Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op fell on lean times. It eventually merged with CountryMark, known today for its dynamic fuel business. Some services originally associated with Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op were later folded into Land O’Lakes, a large, multi-state co-op.
Meanwhile, many county Farm Bureau co-ops merged with one another, forming stronger business units. A few strong single-county co-ops still operate today. The idea then and now is that the customers own the co-op. ....

AVON, Ind. Indiana-based agriculture and energy cooperatives Harvest Land Co-op, Inc. and Co-Alliance Cooperative, Inc. (formerly Co-Alliance, LLP), announced Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, that both sets of boards and memberships have overwhelmingly agreed to merge.
The new organization will be named Co-Alliance Cooperative, Inc. and the merger will take effect on Feb. 1 2021. This merger creates a cooperative that is focused on delivering an unmatched customer experience to its members.
The newly formed Co-Alliance Cooperative, services customers in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. It has four core divisions, including Agronomy, Energy, Grain and Swine and Animal Nutrition. Together, this new cooperative will have over 1000 employees and $1.3 billion in sales. ....
