Southtown eateries Maverick Texas Brasserie and Rosario's duke it out over proposed building plans

Instagram / maverick.sanantonio The owner of Southtown s Maverick Texas Brasserie is asking for community help to halt a nearby construction project that he argues could put his restaurant out of business.
The proposed design includes a 20-foot wall built six inches from Maverick s patio space. The owner of the brasserie said the structure would block airflow and natural light, rendering the spacious patio unusable.

Houston traffic: Southwest Freeway mainlanes to reopen Monday after demolition of old Galleria-area ramp

Drivers experienced major delays around the US-59/I-610 interchange in the Galleria area this weekend.
The freeway will remain shut down until 5 a.m. Monday in both directions between the West Loop and South Rice.
On Sunday evening, crews were re-striping the mainlanes of I-69.
TxDOT had opened the brand new West Loop northbound connector to US-59 Southbound, so now the old one is coming down.
Crews completed the demolition of two old connector ramps over the I-69 SW Freeway mainlanes at I-610 W. Loop. Crews spent most of the day cleaning up. CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Demolition of the Millennium Hotel is expected to begin the week of March 15, according to the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority.
The 872-room hotel will be torn down piece by piece and is expected to be completed in June of 2022.
“Crews remain focused on the safe and efficient abatement of asbestos and removal of universal waste and residual furniture, fixtures and equipment. When the building has been cleared and the demolition permits have been issued, demolition will begin, tentatively scheduled for the week of March 15,” Port Vice President of Communications and Marketing Tom Millikin said. ....

Demolition set to begin on old Johnson County Courthouse

Athens demonstrators protest in response to demolition of historic neighborhood

Protesters rallied on East Broad Street Friday afternoon in response to the demolition of a historic neighborhood that is set to be replaced by a new parking deck.
The protesters stood beside Wilkerson Street and Pottery Street where the student housing building, The Mark, will add on to its pre-existing property.
The neighborhood, known as âPotterytown,â consists of single-family homes dating back more than 100 years. The majority of the homes have already been or will be torn down by student-housing development company Landmark Properties in order to add to the second phase of The Mark apartment building.
The organizers of the event, Madeline Polits and Cooper Holmes, are residents of Athens and share a plot of land in the neighborhood. Both said they value the homes in the area and feel they are a form of expression of Athens history. ....
