SunStar + January 17, 2021 THE African Swine Fever (ASF) has now reached Mati City in Davao Oriental, killing around 132 hog livestock, the local City Veterinary Services Office (CVSO) confirmed on Saturday, January 16, 2021. CVSO head Marites Linsag-Erispe said in a press release that their office received reports on December 15, 2020, that four hogs died in Barangay Don Salvador. The office immediately took some specimen samples and on December 18, it was confirmed that the hogs were infected with ASF. On the same day, the office conducted an orientation regarding the Department of Agriculture (DA) Administrative Order 22 series of 2020, which mandates the culling of all live hogs within the 500-meter radius where the confirmed ASF case was recorded. ....
Vietnam to become first country to produce vaccine for ASF 22:17 | 15/01/2021 Vietnam to issue vaccine for ASF in second quarter Once the products are officially launched, Vietnam will become the first country in the world manufacturing a vaccine for ASF. Navetco National Veterinary JSC (Navetco) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development finished the pilot programme on 72 pigs in normal condition with a 100 per cent success ratio. The pilot was also applied to crossbred pigs. According to Navetco, the vaccine takes 14 days to show results . Phung Duc Tieng, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said, âThe vaccine is sure to be effective because no pigs tested positive for the ASF epidemic after being injected.â ....
Poultry companies need to prepare for year of high and volatile feed prices The global poultry sector faces a perfect storm of ongoing COVID-19 related disruption, particularly to the foodservice sector, soft economic conditions, high and volatile feed prices, an exceptionally high-pressure avian influenza winter season, and global oversupply. So says Rabobank in its latest poultry quarterly. Foodservice sales, which the international poultry industry is heavily reliant on, will be down again in most markets compared to 2019 levels, said the analysts. There will also be more competitive global poultry trade markets in 2021 due to China’s and Vietnam’s African swine fever (ASF) recovery. ....
Belgium celebrates ASF-free status after months of missed ‘bonanza’ export trade The World Organisation of Animal Health has confirmed Belgium is now officially free from African Swine Fever. What could this mean for export trade to China? This week, the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE) confirmed all pigs, hogs and boars in Belgium are free from African Swine Fever (ASF). The regained status comes more than two years after the September 2018 outbreak of ASF in Belgium. To be considered officially ASF-free, Belgium’s Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) proved to the OIE that Belgium had experienced zero cases for a period of one year. ....
