Despite the Department of Agriculture (DA) 8’s assurance that it has managed to curb the spread of the disease in three barangays in Leyte by culling more than 1,000 hogs, DA 7 Director Salvador Diputado met with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on Friday, Jan. 22, to discuss further measures to prevent ASF’s entry to the region, particularly to Cebu Province. Diputado said Garcia was updated on the ASF situation in the towns of Abuyog, Paz and Javier in Leyte. ....

In a Facebook post, the Municipal Government revealed that the deadly hog virus had entered the locality after the confirmatory result coming from the Department of Agriculture-Davao Region (DA-Davao) came out positive. The local government said samples were taken from Purok Dahlia and Santan in Barangay Poblacion. Boston Mayor Rowell Rosit, as a result, issued an executive order, enforcing measures to curb the spread of ASF, which remains no cure nor vaccine as of present. ....

14:04 GMT+7 More than 500,000 pigs have been imported from Thailand since June 2020. However, the pork price has been rising to VND78,000-85,000 per kilogram in the lead-up to the Tet holiday. Nguyen Van Trong, deputy director of the Department of Livestock Production, on January 14 told the press that total meat output in 2020 had reached 5.37 million tons, including 3.8 million tons of pork. As of the end of December, Vietnam had 27.3 million pigs. Pig refarming after ASF (African swine fever epidemic) has gone well throughout the country. Sixteen provinces have reported over 100 percent refarming and increase in the herds of pigs. ....

Pork prices up in NCR due to tight supply Published January 20, 2021 3:30pm Prices of pork in Metro Manila markets have gone up due to the African swine fever (ASF). According to Bernadette Reyes’ report on Balitanghali on Wednesday, a kilogram of pork belly in Trabajo Market is being sold for P420, while pigue and kasim are being sold for P400 per kilo. In Mabini Market in Caloocan, a kilogram of pork belly is being sold for P410, while pigue and kasim are being sold for P390 per kilo. The prices are almost the same rates as a kilo of beef. ....
