A trio of Jack Dorsey, Cathie Wood and Elon Musk are promoting the idea that bitcoin mining can be good for the planet. That’s not exactly true.
The basis of the idea is that mining cryptocurrencies uses a lot of power and can be deployed at any time. That could help a developer make money minting coins at a time when there’s lots of wind or sunshine and not much electricity demand. Making better use of wind and solar, where power generation can be intermittent, increases efficiency, lowers prices and helps encourage the green transition. ....

What Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey Are Missing About Bitcoin and Green Energy

The theory is based on trends that are already happening, regardless of crypto. The cost of renewable power is plummeting and an increasing share of energy is being supplied by electricity. There are so many existing incentives that the International Energy Agency expects wind and solar to account for around 12 percent of electricity demand by 2030, up from 5 percent in 2019.

OLI Architecture builds LX Pavilion for Richard Serra sculpture London Cross

OLI Architecture has installed a Japanese-inspired cabin on an estate in Westchester, New York, to house the Richard Serra sculpture London Cross.
LX Pavilion was designed as a bespoke container for the two 15-ton plates of weathering steel that form the huge sculpture.
Though it looks very simple from the outside, behind its charred Accoya wood exterior is a white-cube gallery space, sized to match the proportions of the space where the piece was first exhibited in 2014, at the Gagosian Gallery in London.
LX Pavilion was built especially to house the Richard Serra sculpture
The building provides a permanent home for the sculpture, which is now owned by a private collector. ....

London and New York, January 19, 2021 – A new, broad measure of ‘energy transition investment’, compiled by BloombergNEF (BNEF), shows that the world committed a record $501.3 billion to decarbonization in 2020, beating the previous year by 9% despite the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
BNEF’s analysis shows that companies, governments and households invested $303.5 billion in new renewable energy capacity in 2020, up 2% on the year, helped by the biggest-ever build-out of solar projects and a $50 billion surge for offshore wind. They also spent $139 billion on electric vehicles and associated charging infrastructure, up 28% and a new record. ....
