Kilshannig is going green for St Patrick s Day thanks to the efforts of the Scór group from the GAA club which will be offering a celebration of Irish culture. With the country facing its second lockdown on the national feast, the aim is to lift everyone s spirits through Irish music, song and dance. Kilshannig GAA has always been a strong supporter of the importance of the cultural aspect of the GAA in Scor and has been prominent down the years in ensuring the club was well represented, according to Cultural Officer Michael O Sullivan. Like everyone in the current virtual environment, we are missing the comradeship, the preparations and practice for the competitions, the fun, and the social interactions that Scór brings to all those involved. ....
The Shandrum Ceili Band, led by the gifted Buttevant traditional musician Alan Finn, will be among the 300 artists participating in this year s virtual St. Patrick s Day Fest on a dedicated television channel on their website SPF TV from March 12-17. The theme of the festival is Dúisigh Éire (Awaken Ireland) in which they invite people to throw off the dark days we have endured through the pandemic, and rise to embrace the brighter days ahead. The Shandrum band s performance, which was commissioned by the St. Patrick s Fest, was filmed by Kanturk s Cal Callaghan of On Track Film Company, at Doneraile Park.
