Commission talks grants for GBI training, Arbor Day plans GBI: Grant to help fight drug trafficking in Albany By Molly Godley | February 22, 2021 at 7:21 PM EST - Updated February 22 at 7:21 PM ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Dougherty County Commission discussed several topics on Monday. One was a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agent updating commissioners on training and asking them to accept a $248,000 grant. GBI Special Agent in Charge Eric Schwalls said COVID-19 affected their ability to get some training done. Schwalls said they are building up their personnel, but many of them haven’t worked narcotics before. Currently, Schwalls said, agents are training on meth lab investigations. ....

Weather in the Portland metropolitan area is not expected to receive much love on Valentine s Day. Severe weather with temperatures below or only slightly above freezing is expected to continue through Sunday, Feb. 14 with more snow and freezing rain possible in the afternoon. The State of Emergency declared by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown on Saturday remains in effect, with temperatures not expected to rise much above freezing until Monday morning, at the earliest. ....
Portland severe weather and warming shelters remain open Emergency severe weather and warming shelters will continue operating because of the ongoing winter storm. The city of Portland/Multnomah County Joint Office of Homeless Services and Multnomah County Emergency Management also announced that more daytime walk-in capacity would be added on Saturday, Feb. 13. In addition, outreach workers will also continue to distribute cold-weather gear and share word about shelters with people surviving outside. First responders, including Portland Fire & Rescue and the Portland Police Bureau, have also been assisting in transporting people to shelter. Around 60 people came in from the cold on Thursday evening, Feb. 12, rising to 150 by Friday, according to Joint Office spokesman Denis Theriault. ....
