Shawn Price February 13, 2021 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The second day of the Tyson Invitational provided more superlatives from the No. 1 Razorbacks as they claimed a fifth consecutive team victory this indoor season while the highlight performance was a school record in the mile by Krissy Gear. Facing a field of nationally ranked teams, the Razorbacks produced another dominant team victory with 140 points, as Alabama (64) and Oregon (62) battled for the runner-up position. The rest of the field included Texas A&M (52), Texas (51), Florida (49), Florida State (42), and LSU (28). “We’re super elated,” said Razorback women’s head coach Lance Harter. “We ran our DMR to get it qualified last night, so Krissy Gear came back in the mile today and rewrote the record book with a 4:31. Camryn Newton-Smith & Jermie Walker earn Sun Belt weekly honors By Caleb Garner - Arkansas State Athletics | January 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM CST - Updated January 28 at 2:00 PM After a strong start to the 2020-21 indoor track and field season, Arkansas Stateâs Jermie Walker and Camryn Newton-Smith garnered Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors on Thursday. Newton-Smith was named Womenâs Field Athlete of the Week, while Walker was tabbed Menâs Track Athlete of the Week in the leagueâs first weekly honors of the season. The All-American pentathlete Newton-Smith earned her second career weekly honor after posting a strong first pentathlon of the year, totaling 4,068 points to win at the Samford Multis on Jan. 21. That mark currently ranks second in the NCAA and was three shy of matching her school-record mark of 4,071 set at the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Championships. The line-up of schools competing this weekend at Randal Tyson Track Center normally would indicate a strong distance field along with an elite level distance medley relay. However, the women’s distance medley was canceled when the field became limited due to various circumstances. “The mile, 3k and 5k are going to be heavily matched between Ole Miss and ourselves,” said Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter. “Oregon’s distance women are dealing with covid and knocked a bunch of them out.
