Man in police custody following standoff outside West Oakville home by News staff Last Updated Jan 16, 2021 at 12:21 am EDT A man is in custody following a nine-hour standoff outside a West Oakville home, Halton police said Friday evening. Police said they were called to a residence on Lakeshore Road West between 4th Line and Birch Hill at around 1:25 p.m. Friday for a report of gunfire in the area. Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place, police said. Appleby College, which is nearby, was placed in a hold and secure mode. Tactical officers, along with crisis negotiators were sent to the scene and officers safely removed a woman from the residence, investigators said. ....
Article content Late Friday night, after more than nine hours, Halton Police brought a standoff in Oakville to a “safe conclusion.” Police were still outside an Oakville home negotiating late Friday night hours after someone barricaded themselves inside with another person and they updated around 10:45 via Twitter: “We have brought this incident to a safe conclusion, and the individual who had barricaded themselves is now in custody. Earlier this year met an author and the keeper of his family’s business and that business is Dracula. Dacre Stoker is the great grandnephew of Bram Stoker, the author of the original 1897 novel Dracula. Since then there have been hundreds of interpretations on the character in print, as well as the stage and screen. A few years ago, Dacre wanted to add his own take on the story and write a sequel to the original novel that bore the Stoker name. That book, Dracula the Undead was written with co-author Ian Holt and released in 2009. In 2018 he collaborated with J. D. Barker on a prequel to the original called Dracul. Dacre Stoker was raised in Montreal and taught at Appleby College in Ontario before moving to the U.S. He is a former member of the Canadian men s pentathlon team and coached the team at the ....
