18th April 2021 Like many other Commonwealth nations, Canada held a commemorative service in honour of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Held at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa, Ontario, after the funeral at Windsor finished, it celebrated the Duke’s life and his relationship with Canada. The ceremony was held at an empty cathedral, with all watching remotely due to Covid. It was led by the Dean of Ottawa and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral, the Very Reverend Elizabeth J Bretzlaff and the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, the Right Reverend Shane A.D. Parker. The cathedral has long been connected with the Royal Family, and a service commemorating the life of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was held there in 2002. ....

Or so it appears with one driver who ripped off a golf cart from Appleby College, the private school located on Lakeshore Road in Oakville, Ontario around noon on January 31. The College called to report the theft, at the same time police began fielding calls from drivers. For some insane reason, the cart-er decided to hit the Queen Elizabeth Way highway instead of sticking to the quieter Lakeshore, a much slower thoroughfare that runs parallel to the major highway. Not only that, they would have passed enough estates and golf courses to maybe, just maybe, been able to blend in a little better. ....

TORONTO One person who was barricaded inside a home in Oakville, Ont. was taken into custody Friday evening, ending a nearly 10-hour long standoff. Residents of a neighbourhood in Oakville, near Lakeshore Road West and Fourth Line, were told to immediately shelter in their basement due to an ongoing active situation just after 2 p.m. on Friday. Police said they received a call for possible gunshots just before 1:20 p.m. They later added that the situation, which involved at least two barricaded people, was currently contained to a residence on Lakeshore Road West. The person who is still inside the home is talking with crisis negotiators, Halton Police Const. Ryan Anderson told reporters near the scene Friday afternoon. ....

A woman was safely removed from the residence earlier in the day as officers and crisis negotiators responded to the active situation on Lakeshore Road West near Fourth Line. Police say the woman also resided in the home. Police said an initial call was received shortly before 1:25 p.m. on Friday following reports of a possible shooting inside the home. ....
