FilmScene s new programming director collaborates with Iowa City community to create thoughtful screenings Paris Barraza, Iowa City Press-Citizen Ben Delgado began working at FilmScene at a unique time. Delgado, 34, came aboard in the first week of June as the new programming director, responsible for curating the theater’s content and creating community engagement. The position was previously held by Rebecca Fons, who introduced initiatives like the African Diaspora at FilmScene and was included on the Press-Citizen’s 2018 “People to Watch” list. After a year with relatively few public screenings, FilmScene has a slate of fresh programming scheduled for the end of the month set to be shown on a brand new 48-foot screen just outside its Chauncey location on the corner of Washington and Gilbert St. FilmScene will be hosting screenings of movies from the past year in Iowa City s Chauncey Swan Park. Dubbed FilmScene in the Park, it will include five consecutive weeks of free screenings beginning April 21. Each film will play twice a week on Wednesday and Saturdays with each screening starting at sunset, at approximately 8 p.m. at the end of April. Seating will be first-come, first served. ....
