May 14, 2021 Alanna Nelson (left) and Jon Henry (right) were elected to the Marion Planning Board in Marion’s May 14 Town Election. MARION Marion has decided. Former Selectman Jon Henry and newcomer Alanna Nelson edged out incumbent Andrew Daniel in a five-way race for two positions on the Planning Board in Marion’s May 14 Town Election. Of 4,335 registered voters in town, 565 or about 13% participated in Friday’s election. Nelson received 245 votes and Henry earned 241. Falling short in the election were lifelong resident Tucker Burr with 213 votes, Daniel with 207 votes and Energy Management Committee member Tom Friedman with 107. Nelson, an Energy management Committee member and resident since 2019, said she’s “grateful very grateful” to have won the election. ....

On the Ballot are incumbent Andrew Daniel, Alanna Nelson and Tom Friedman of the Energy Management Committee, former Selectman Jon Henry and lifelong resident Tucker Burr. While Daniel is running for reelection to his position on the board, the second open position was left by the resignation of Kristen St. Don-Campbell. The vacancy left by St. Don-Campbell has caused procedural issues for the board, including limiting the acting board during the approval process of a new Tabor Academy student center and library. ....
Jon Henry MARION Former Selectman Jon Henry is looking to return to public service with a campaign for the town’s Planning Board. “Well, no one was running,” Henry said. Henry was the first candidate, other than incumbent Andrew Daniel, to take out nomination papers from the town clerk’s office. He said he decided to run because he saw the way the Planning Board was hindered, when approving Tabor Academy’s new student center and library, by the vacancy left by Kristen St. Don-Campbell. “That’s the sole reason that pushed me into deciding to run,” Henry said. A Tabor graduate himself, Henry said that the town needs to think cooperatively with the school as it expands. ....
Andrew Daniel MARION Planning Board incumbent Andrew Daniel says it doesn’t matter what kind of business comes to the board he tries to treat all of them equally. “It could be a big institution or a small coffee shop,” Daniel said, adding that his job is to “hear each case and treat everyone fairly.” Daniel is in his sixth year on the board and running for his second full term. He started on the board when there was a vacancy, and he was appointed by the Selectmen. As for why he sought his original appointment, Daniel said “there were a couple cases where I really disagreed with how a couple cases were being treated.” ....
