New and familiar faces favored in Marion Town Election

MARION Marion has decided.
Former Selectman Jon Henry and newcomer Alanna Nelson edged out incumbent Andrew Daniel in a five-way race for two positions on the Planning Board in Marion’s May 14 Town Election.
Of 4,335 registered voters in town, 565 or about 13% participated in Friday’s election.
Nelson received 245 votes and Henry earned 241. Falling short in the election were lifelong resident Tucker Burr with 213 votes, Daniel with 207 votes and Energy Management Committee member Tom Friedman with 107.
Nelson, an Energy management Committee member and resident since 2019, said she’s “grateful very grateful” to have won the election. ....

What you need to know for Marion Town Election

MARION Town Election is on May 14, and voters will be able to cast their ballots from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center.
Early voting by mail is currently available to anyone who wishes to cast their ballot ahead of the election. Residents may request a ballot by printing the application found on marionma.gov, or by a signed, handwritten request.
Either must be returned to the town clerk’s office via email, mail or the drop box outside Town Hall before Monday, May 10, and the voted ballots must be returned to the town clerk by 7 p.m. on Friday, May 14. ....

Marion School Committee passes $6.5 million budget

MARION The Marion School Committee unanimously approved a $6.46 million operating budget for the 2022 fiscal year on April 7.
Old Rochester Regional District Assistant Superintendent Howie Barber presented the budget to the committee at a public hearing, where he broke down costs for Sippican School.
The Fiscal Year 2022 operating budget reflects a 2.47% or $155,000 increase over this year’s $6.3 million budget.
“Keeping the budget under that 2.5% going to the town is huge,” committee member Nichole Daniel said.
On top of the budget, Marion is receiving just over $244,000 in grants and other funding for paraprofessionals, teachers, facilities and tuition costs. ....
