Covid vaccine: More than 90% of over 80s received first dose


ANOTHER 75,000 coronavirus vaccines have been administered across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the last week.
A total of 303,203 jabs have been given across the counties, making it the fifth highest region for vaccine delivery nationally.
This includes 92.7 per cent of all over 80s being given their first dose - one of the highest rates nationally.
Additionally, just over 86 per cent of people aged 75-79 have received the first dose of either the Pfizer/BioNTech or Oxford/Astra Zeneca jabs, with a little under 20 per cent of those aged between the ages of 70 and 74.
The data relates to the period to January 31, 2021. ....

TVBC rejects referendum on moving Andover war memorial


Veterans have raised “grave concerns” over a proposal to hold a referendum on moving Andover’s war memorial.
Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) was debating a motion by Cllrs Christopher Ecclestone and David Coole to hold a consultation on the resiting of the memorial, with the aim of holding a referendum on the move in 2021.
Cllr Ecclestone said that the proposal would “would finally, once and for all, settle this issue of where the war memorial is sited.”
However, others disagreed with the plans, saying that they had been brought with “contempt” and had no information on the costs or impacts such a move would have on the listed monument. ....

Covid: Rates falling in Winchester district except for one new area: Friday January 29


COVID rates are falling faster in Winchester district than anywhere else in Hampshire, today s figures confirm.
The district is now in the top ten per cent of districts for infection rates with only 26 out of 315 in the UK doing better, and none in Hampshire.
The
Chronicle has reported the daily figures since last summer and was first to report the trend for declining infection rates around three weeks ago.
All parts of the Winchester district are now below the England average as rates improve in
Winchester East, Whiteley Knowle and Wickham, and
Bishop s Waltham and Waltham Chase.

Winchester schools clear of Covid-19 for first time in weeks


FURTHER evidence Covid-19 is on the retreat in Winchester.
The Chronicle has reported the daily figures since last summer and reporting the trend for the numbers to decline around three weeks ago.
Now for the first time in weeks no schools in the Winchester district have reported a case in the last 10 days, the only authority in Hampshire to do so.
But there are some relative hotspots where Covid is persisting and above the England average: Winchester East, Whiteley Knowle and Wickham and Bishop s Waltham and Waltham Chase.
In
Winchester East, which covers part of the city centre, Winnall, Highcliffe and Bar End, the rolling seven-day rate per 100,000 rose from 282 the Sunday before last to 405 today, although down from 417 yesterday. In Winchester East in the seven days to Wednesday January 21 there were 35 new cases, up 12, an increase of 57 per cent. ....
