Photo by Hugh Carey / Summit Daily archives The Frisco Town Council held a high-level conversation about how to approach events moving forward, hoping to take advantage of the year-plus drought of gatherings to ensure the town’s festivals, concerts and contests are meeting the town’s goals. Frisco officials broached the topic during a lengthy work session discussion Tuesday, Feb. 23. While no decisions were made with regard to what events will stay and what might go, the conversation did provide insights into how the Town Council and staff evaluate events. ....

At a council work session Tuesday, Jan. 12, the group discussed options for providing funding directly to families who struggle with affording child care. The council currently provides $65,000 a year to the Summit County Preschool, which is a nonprofit and not affiliated with the county government. While the town has a number of options for providing assistance to local families, Town Manager Nancy Kerry suggested that the council look into implementing a program that is similar to the Town of Breckenridge’s tuition assistance program. ....

Frisco officials resumed talks around a potential remodel of the town’s police department last week, picking up previously approved concept drawings for the space that were pushed to the side as a result of COVID-19-related budget cuts. For some officials, an upgrade to the department is long overdue. “This place is in serious need of some tender love and care,” Frisco Police Chief Tom Wickman said. “We have a big table, and people eat there. They clean their guns there. They drug test there. We need more space to carry out our tasks, and the new remodel will give us those various areas to do that.” ....
