Human rights groups to boycott government's Prevent review

A coalition of human rights and community groups have said they will boycott the government’s review of the anti-radicalisation programme Prevent in protest at the appointment of William Shawcross as its chair.
In a joint statement, 17 groups with interests in human rights and communities, including Liberty, Amnesty International and the Runnymede Trust, said the appointment of Shawcross showed the review was there to “simply rubber-stamp” the controversial and divisive strategy, and they would not contribute to the exercise.
There have been calls for an independent review of Prevent for years, by critics who say it fosters discrimination against people of Muslim faith or background and inhibits legitimate expression. ....

Rights groups to boycott UK anti-extremism program review

LONDON: Human rights groups have committed to boycotting a UK government review into the anti-extremist Prevent program to protest the appointment of William Shawcross as its chair. Last month Shawcross, who chaired the Charity Commission between 2012 and 2018, was made head of the program. The decision was criticized because of previous comments he had made about Islam. ....

Slough people of all faiths remember the Holocaust victims


The event was organised by the Mustaqbill Future Foundation which works in the town to tackle extremism and bring different faiths together.
All faiths were represented and leading members of the community contributing included the town s MP Tan Dhesi, the mayor Cllr Preston Brooker, council leader James Swindlehurst, police area commander Gavin Wong and Maidenhead based rabbi Doctor Jonathan Romain.
Chief guest was Alex Carlile, Baron Carlile of Berriew.
