The bizarre case of a thrice-shot, but still-alive moose dragged about 100 metres on a highway in the Killarney area has ended with a one-year house arrest sentence for a Wikwemikong elder.
“I am thankful for having come to the end of this trial,” Alphone Maiangowi, 75, told Ontario Court Justice John Keast via telephone link through an Anishnaabe interpreter just before being issued the penalty Thursday at the Sudbury Courthouse. “Today, I am in Sudbury where they requested my services, and with all the other funeral directors I work with, I am kept busy.” ....

A Sudbury man who refused to stay away from his spouse after a series of domestic violence incidents will be waiting a long time before he can see her again.
Braeden Deguire must complete a nine-month house arrest first, then serve probation, for a total of 27 months.

In addition, Deguire must complete the Partner Assault Response program before he can see her, Ontario Court Justice John Keast ruled.
Deguire had been in custody for nine days following the sixth time he had been found with or had contact with his spouse. Keast warned him not to have any unauthorized contact with the woman for at least the next 27 months. ....
