The bizarre case of a thrice-shot, but still-alive moose dragged about 100 metres on a highway in the Killarney area has ended with a one-year house arrest sentence for a Wikwemikong elder.
“I am thankful for having come to the end of this trial,” Alphone Maiangowi, 75, told Ontario Court Justice John Keast via telephone link through an Anishnaabe interpreter just before being issued the penalty Thursday at the Sudbury Courthouse. “Today, I am in Sudbury where they requested my services, and with all the other funeral directors I work with, I am kept busy.”
