LMFM By Michael Carolan Students at St Vincent’s Secondary School, Dundalk: Jessica, Shona, Anna, Rachel, Freya took home the runner-up prize at the final of the AWS GetIT competition. AWS GetIT invited teams from different schools to participate in an app-building competition to solve real issues faced by their school or community. Students at St Vincent’s Secondary School, Dundalk, won the runner-up prize at the final of the AWS GetIT competition which took place today, for an app idea called Go Green which is an environmentally focused app. It is aimed that the app would inform users of their nearest recycling centre locations, provide them with the latest environmental news, and ways they can act more sustainably in their daily lives. ....

A group of fifth-year students from Our Lady s College, Greenhills, Drogheda have been named as the overall winners of the PDST Young Economist of the Year award 2021. Amy Bellew, Aoibheann NiFhearaigh, Osarugue Loveth Edomwande, Abby Rice, Sophie Begley and Lois O Hare received first place for their project titled “Imperial Economics - The Winds of Change”. The project was selected out of 1000 entries from over 200 schools nationwide. The online award ceremony was attended by Michael McGrath T.D., Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, and Sharon Donnery, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank. ....
It was a clean sweep for the young women of STEM in Co Louth at the recent BT Young Scientist and Technology awards. Taking home an award was Our Lady s College, Greenhills student, Peidi Li who took third place award in the Chemical, Physical & Mathematical Senior Individual section of the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE for her project A Mathematical investigation of regular and semiregular tessellating patterns . Alannah Voigt and Sarah Carey, both students at St Vincent s Secondary School in Dundalk, also took home a third-place award in the same category, with their investigation into the effects of combined heated air currents of different temperature on the flight dynamics on a badminton shuttlecock. ....
