Clothing, food donations accepted
Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. Tax receipts will be available.
Soup sale planned
Quarts of vegetable beef and ham & bean soup will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 1, at the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, Claysburg. Soup is $6 a quart and is available on a first come, first served basis. For more information, call 814-931-7130
Drive-thru turkey dinner planned
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 136 Hilltop Road, Lilly, will hold a drive-tru turkey dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18. The meal includes turkey with all the fixings, plus dessert and dinner roll. Cost is $11.
Food pantry open Tuesdays and Thursdays
The St. Vincent DePaul Assumption Chapel Food Pantry, 1523 Adams Ave., has never closed during the pandemic. We are open on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30. All interested parties must call 814-943-7962 for an appointment. Picture identification and being masked are required.
Yard sale and chicken barbecue set
A yard sale and chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, May 1, at Hicks United Methodist Church, 1211 Third Ave., Duncansville.
Badorrek
Stephanie G. Badorrek, 61, of Altoona, passed away Friday morning, April 9, 2021, at her residence after courageously fighting a two-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born the daughter of the late Harry C. Walker Jr. and Marjorie (Dunnenberger) Walker. She married Harry W. Badorrek Jr. on May 2, 1981.
In addition to her husband, surviving are a son, Stephen (Nicole) of Altoona; a sister, Susan (Philip) Harrison of New Castle; and a brother, H. Scott Walker of Altoona.
Stephanie was a born again Christian and longtime member of Altoona Alliance Church. She was a 1977 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 1 p.m., with Pastor Philip R. Harrison officiating.
Wilson
Joseph Edward “Ed” Wilson, 96, of Trenton, Ohio, formerly of Altoona, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was reunited with his beloved wife, Alice, on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. He was born in Barnesboro, son of the late Thomas and Leona (Lowmaster) Wilson.
He married Alice (Thomas) Wilson on June 11, 1949, at the Second EUB Church in Altoona.
Surviving is a son, Thomas Edward (Karen) of Beavercreek, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia Louise (Danny) Kuykendoll of Trenton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Alice; and a brother, William Robert Wilson.
