NAACP Leader 11:56 pm The new President of the Blair County Chapter of the NAACP is the youngest ever elected to lead a Pennsylvania branch. 22-year-old Andrae Holsey, a 2016 graduate of Altoona Area High School, will lead over 50 members in branch #2252. “What I want to bring to the table is the ability to communicate with the younger generation,” He spent over four years in the army reserves as a mechanic. In December, Holsey will graduate from Penn State Altoona and become a Second Lieutenant in the army. The Blair County NAACP is the oldest chapter in the PA State Conference.

ifredregill@altoonamirror.com A juvenile is in custody on attempted murder charges after an investigation revealed he allegedly fired three shots at a rival near Altoona Area High School last month, court documents state. Altoona resident Louis Antonio Colon, 17, was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio on multiple charges as an adult, including felony attempted murder, two counts of felony aggravated assault, felony carrying a firearm without a license, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm by a minor and three counts of recklessly endangering another person, according to court documents. Using surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts, police were able to piece together the events of a shooting in Altoona on April 7.

Nov. 18, 1948 – May 10, 2021 May 11, 2021 Charles C. “Chuck” Sadler, 72, of Altoona, died early Monday morning at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert Charles and Clara Geraldine (Miller) Sadler. He married Debra A. Kane on May 7, 1977, at Llyswen United Methodist Church, Altoona. Surviving are his wife, Debra; his mother-in-law, Grace M. Erndl; a special nephew, Wally Zapotoczny and his fiance, Melissa; and his dog, Max. Chuck was a 1966 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He was also a graduate of the auto mechanics program at Val-Tech. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1966-68. Chuck retired as a maintenance technician, having been employed over the years by various companies.
