Wednesday is a critical day for Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline. May 12 marks 180 days since Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer “gave notice that the state was terminating a 1953 easement for the pipeline,” which carries oil to refineries in Ontario through Wisconsin and Michigan. Whitmer said Line 5 “poses an unacceptable risk of a catastrophic oil spill,” the National Observer reports.
Alternative modes of transport for the crude Line 5 currently transports are not favourable, according to Natural Resources Minister Seamus O’Regan.
Using 18-wheelers, boats, and railway cars to transport oil would be “messy, polluting, and expensive,” O’Regan told CTV News Channel’s Power Play on Tuesday. “That’s a contingency plan that I don’t want to have to bank on.” ....

, have secured a total of £5.25m worth of funding to accelerate their growth plans in the international life sciences market.
The funding comes from two existing backers. Mercia has invested from its Northern Venture Capital Trust (VCT) and Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) funds and the North East Venture Fund (NEVF), which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF); while NorthStar Ventures invested from the North East Innovation Fund, which is also supported by the ERDF. This funding round will help Newcells Biotech expand their growth in 3D tissue modelling for drug discovery. ....

Triax passes DTG European IRS Certification Scheme

Danish multimedia hardware provider Triax is the latest company to pass DTG Testing and CAI’s new assurance scheme for TV and satellite distribution equipment.
The European IRS Certification Scheme (EICS), which is the first of its kind, is aimed at providing reassurance of end-to-end device compatibility, interoperability and robust RF performance within satellite and DTT distribution systems.
Triax, which specialises in broadcast reception equipment, passed the test specification with its range of dSCR products.
EICS, led by DTG and CAI, has been developed through an industry collaboration of satellite and DTT platforms and equipment manufacturers. It consists of a test specification underpinned by international standards and a consumer-facing logo, which is supported by leading retailers. ....

Broadcast, telecom leaders secure DCMS support for 5G live event delivery

The DTG (Digital TV Group), in partnership with Digital Catapult, Global Wireless Solutions, O2 Telefónica, Rohde & Schwarz, has successfully secured Government funding to develop a 5G mobile based platform to broadcast events in stadiums and other venues.
Boasting pre-existing relationships built on successful R&D work and 5G trials, the collaboration is designed to bring together complementary skills from across the whole mobile media delivery ecosystem from devices to networks to broadcast to content and to venues. The consortium plans to provide enhanced interactive viewing experiences direct to devices in stadia and at other select locations, using 5G broadcast also known as FeMBMS: further enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast service. The objective of the consortium s VISTA (Video In Stadia Technical Architecture) project is to test and demonstrate consumer benefits and technical feasibility of using 5G FeMBMS technology. ....
