LAHORE: An Accountability Court on Saturday declared Ali Imran Yousaf, son-in-law of Shahbaz Sharif, and daughter Rabia Imran as proclaimed offenders in Saaf Pani Company reference.
In January the court had started proceedings to declare Ali Imran Yousaf and his wife Rabia Imran proclaimed offenders. The court, after declaring said accused as proclaimed offenders, has sought detail of properties of the accused from the prosecution.
The NAB had filed a supplementary reference against Waseem Ajmal, former CEO, Punjab, Saaf Pani Company, South, Imran Ali Yousaf, CEO M/s Ali, and Fatima Developers, on acquiring an under-construction building (Ali Trade Centre) on rent by abusing authority, which caused a loss of Rs24.7m to the national exchequer. However, Ali Imran didn’t join the investigation nor appeared before the court. ....

LONDON: London High Court judge Justice Sir Matthew Nicklin relied on allegations in Mail on Sunday’s article by David Rose declaring Shahbaz Sharif guilty of corruption, money-laundering and receiving commission to rule that the paper will now have to prove that Shahbaz Sharif and his family members “stole” and “embezzled tens of millions of pounds of public money and laundering it in Britain”.
This correspondent was present in the court when Justice Matthew Nicklin ruled during the trial of the meaning that Shahbaz Sharif’s defamation was at chase level 1 – which means that his defamation level was the highest in terms that he was declared guilty of stealing money of the UK taxpayers. ....

LONDON/LAHORE: The London High Court Friday ruled in favour of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and his son-in-law Ali Imran Yousaf in relation to the meaning of reporter David Rose’s article published on 14 July 2019, alleging that Shahbaz and his son-in-law were involved in money-laundering and embezzlement of the British money meant for Pakistan’s poor people.
Justice Sir Matthew Nicklin ruled that Mail on Sunday’s article carried the highest level of defamatory meaning for both Shahbaz Sharif and Ali Imran Yousaf.
The Daily Mail had contested that the words used in the article were not defamatory but the judge ruled that the level of defamation to Shahbaz Sharif was Chase level 1 – the highest form of defamation in English law – on all counts raised by Sharif’s lawyers in their arguments and Ali Imran Yousaf’s defamation was Chase Level 1 ....

Money-laundering case

LAHORE: The Accountability Court (AC) on Monday adjourned the hearing of money-laundering and assets-beyond-means reference against PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and his family members by February 10. The court adjourned after the defense counsel completed cross-examining of a prosecution witness. The court also summoned more witnesses for next hearing. The jail authorities produced Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz amid tight security as heavy contingents of the law enforcement had cordoned off the court premises.
Shahbaz informed the court that two to three of his medical tests were still pending despite the court orders. Shahbaz also presented Transparency International report about Pakistan, saying that in PML-N government corruption index was going down while in the government of anti-corruption champions, corruption is increasing in the country. He said that nobody can prove corruption of a single penny against him till the day judgment. ....
