New Delhi: CSIR’s new entity, the CSIR-National Institute of Science communication and Policy Research (NIScPR)), New Delhi, organized a half-day online session on COVID-19 in children yesterday (04 June 2021). The session was focused on the recent second wave outbreak and the impact of COVID-19 on children, threats and necessary protocols required for the safety of children. The Chief Guest of the webinar was Dr. V. Vijayalakshmi; Additional Commissioner (Academics), KVS (HQ), New Delhi and the Guest speaker was Prof. Dr. R. Somasekar, Professor of Pediatrics, Sree Balaji Medical College & Hosptial (SBMCH), Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Executive Board Member 2021, Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP). The program was attended by about 150 delegates including several dignitaries, faculty members, researchers and scientists, and students from various schools through the link made available on Face Book by CSIR-NIScPR. ....

Pseudo-science being promoted under guise of Covid-19 cure, says rationalist | Mangaluru News

MANGALURU: The pandemic has promoted dissemination of “pseudo-science, non-science and bad science” among people, rationalist Narendra Nayak has said. He was speaking on ‘Scientific Temper in times of Covid-19’ a day-long event organised by 51AH Trust, Aid Without Religion trust, FIRA and St Aloysius College on Sunday.
Nayak said the ministry of Ayush, yoga and homeopathy is fostering “pseudo-science” by promoting immunity pill which are touted to cure Covid-19 or prevent the infection.
“It has not been scientifically proven that these herbal drops or tablets, which are touted as immunity boosters, can cure or prevent Covid-19 infections. This is pseudoscience,” Nayak said. “Pujas, cow urine, herbal teas and all sorts of decoctions come under non-science. The bad science is the use of anti-viral drug remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) for treatment of Covid-19. What has really worked to cure Covid-19 is body immunity and immunosu ....

New Delhi: Every year on February 28, the nation observes National Science Day to honour Nobel Laureate and great Indian Physicist Sir C V Raman.
The day has been observed since 1987 after National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) asked the then government to declare February 28 as National Science Day.  It was on this day (February 28) when Dr C V Raman discovered the Raman Effect.
