Arnab's chats: Maharashtra seeking legal opinion for action, says Minister

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh sought to know from the Centre how Mr. Goswami got access to sensitive information regarding the strike.
The Maharashtra government is taking legal opinion on whether action can be taken against Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami under the Official Secrets Act over his purported WhatsApp chats concerning the Balakot air strike, a state minister said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference here, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh also sought to know from the Centre how Mr. Goswami got access to sensitive information regarding the strike.
He was referring to the purported chats between Mr. Goswami and former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) head Partho Dasgupta, which mentioned that Mr. Goswami was privy to the 2019 air strike, when the Indian Air Force (IAF) hit the biggest JeM training camp in Balakot, deep inside Pakistan on February 26 that year. ....

New Delhi: The Pakistan government and the country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan made their way into the controversy over Arnab Goswami’s WhatsApp chats, saying the Republic TV founder’s conversations “show” that the Balakot airstrike was planned by the Narendra Modi government to win the 2019 general elections.
The Mumbai police have annexed chats between Goswami and former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) CEO Partho Dasgupta, which showed that Goswami was aware of the airstrike â which the Indian Air Force conducted as retaliation to the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019 â at least three days in advance. ....

Breaking his silence over the leaked WhatsApp conversations of Republic TV promoter and anchor Arnab Goswami, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday sharing of information under Officials Secrets Act (OSA) is a “criminal act” and “the receiver and giver of such information should go to jail”.

At a press conference at the party headquarters, Mr. Gandhi also targeted the Narendra Modi government over its handling of the hostilities with China and other aspects of the foreign policy.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh will be chairing a high-level meeting on Tuesday to decide upon the next course of action in the Arnab Chat Gate. The state government is also looking into how Goswami got access to sensitive information such as on matters pertaining to Balakot airstrikes in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack.
We are gathering information about the leaked chats between Arnab Goswami and Partho Dasgupta. Some highly sensitive things including the Balakot airstrike & the Pulwama attack have been mentioned in the chats, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said, news agency ANI reported. ....
