It was a hot day and 29-year-old Kyle Vinson sought some shade with a cold drink in an office park, where he was looking for work at an optical store in Aurora.
Vinson had been experiencing homelessness and had met a few guys on the streets, one who helped him put air in the tires of his bike so he could get around more. He sat near them.
Police arrived on a report that some men were trespassing. The officers asked all three of them for their names. They all complied. The officers ran their names through state and federal databases and discovered all three had outstanding warrants. ....

Colorado officer caught on body camera pistol-whipping, choking man resigns


The Aurora police officer who is facing criminal charges and an internal affairs investigation after being shown on body camera footage beating an unarmed man has resigned, the police department announced Thursday afternoon.
John Haubert submitted a letter of resignation to Police Chief Vanessa Wilson, the department said in a blog post.
The internal affairs investigation, which Wilson said she ordered expedited, will continue, according to the post.
When it s complete, Wilson will make a decision about whether Haubert violated police department directives and what discipline he would have received had he not resigned. The decision will be released to the public. ....

Filing seeks to release from incarceration mother jailed due to orders barring her from criticizing judge's order terminating parental rights


An Arapahoe County mother of three has been incarcerated for more than nine months due to a “series of confusing and unconstitutional orders” that barred the woman from discussing with others or speaking out against a ruling terminating her parental rights, a court filing states.

The orders came from former District Court Judge Natalie Chase, who in April resigned amid reports of racial misconduct after acknowledging that she “undermined confidence in the impartiality of the judiciary.” The mother, Courtney Propst, received four contempt-of-court findings and has been incarcerated at the Arapahoe County Jail since August 31, 2020, and is not scheduled for release until December. ....
