Indiana unemployment concerns go unanswered; 1 office open by appointment only


The department has received and distributed $8.8 billion of unemployment money since the coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020.
The office of Gov. Eric Holcomb, a Republican, has restricted or blocked access to Commissioner Payne for months, which is the reason News 8 came to the Government Center South building on Wednesday and knocked on doors trying to get answers for Hoosiers.
Those Hoosiers include Danita Owens. She began helping her brother navigate the unemployment system after he lost his job in 2020, but now the state wants most the money repaid.
“It doesn’t make any since. You don’t pay people out and then turn around and say you got to pay it all back due to documents not being received because they were,” Owens said.  ....

Abortion rights groups are suing Indiana over a new law that will require health-care providers to share information about an  abortion reversal drug, something that opponents of the law said is not based on science. 
All-Options Pregnancy Resource Center and a coalition of other health-care providers filed a lawsuit Tuesday over House Bill 1577, signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb last month. It goes into effect July 1. 
Under the new act, abortion clinics have to provide information in writing about progesterone, a drug some anti-abortion groups say can reverse medically induced abortions, as long as a mother has only taken one of the two required abortion pills.  ....

INDIANAPOLIS As the federal government works to make COVID-19 vaccines available to all Americans, lawmakers in more than 40 states have introduced legislation that would forbid mandates requiring people get vaccinated.
Often advanced by vaccine skeptics and sponsored by Republicans, most seek to prohibit businesses from requiring employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus or limit school and daycare vaccination entry requirements. ....
