Columbia Market House opening, 3 new businesses in York, Lancaster


After three years sitting empty, the Columbia Market House will be re-opening next month. 
The historic market, which dates back to 1869, will re-open on Saturday, May 29 featuring 19 local vendors and a full-service restaurant, Gypsy Kitchen.
We re bringing life back to this building for the community, market manager Kelsey Miller said. 
Miller, who doubles as the healthy communities program manager at CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health, will oversee daily operations at the market. CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health and the Columbia Borough have partnered together to breathe new life into the historic site. 
Columbia Borough manager Mark Stivers said the market had been vacant since 2017. The current project began picking up steam in summer 2019 and now the grand opening will market the completion of the first phase of the near $3 million project, he said. The second phase will include additional parking for the market house and visitors to downtown Columbia ....

HARB approves demolition of old Philly Cafe in York City

York City s Historical Architectural Review Board on Thursday approved the demolition of a historic building that has been vacant and blighted for decades.
HARB unanimously approved Royal Square Development & Construction s request to raze the old Philly Café, building, located at 484-486 W. Philadelphia St. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Normally, we don t approve demolitions of historic buildings like this that are relatively intact, but this one has to do with, basically, demolition by neglect that well predates the current owners, said board member Mark Shermeyer.
Shermeyer has said the historical building once housed the well-known old Philly Café, a local destination spot for those in York and surrounding areas. ....

COVID temporarily closes Mexitaly in Springettsbury Township


Mexitaly announced it will be temporarily closed due to coronavirus concerns. 
The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 7, on the restaurant s Facebook page. Owner Greg Skirboll confirmed that one member of the staff has tested positive for COVID-19. 
The restaurant will follow all necessary quarantine protocols for its staff and will temporarily close for at least 10 days. 
This is the first such closure for the hybrid craft brewery, Mexican-Italian restaurant, located on East Market Street in Springettsbury To. Mexitaly is working on opening its second location in downtown York in part of a $3.6 million redevelopment project with Royal Square Development & Construction.  ....

RSDC seeks buyer to redevelop historic building

One of York City’s most notable historic buildings is back on the market – for a limited time.
ROCK Commercial Real Estate LLC listed the former Post Office on 200 S. George St. for $1,795,000 this past week.
After six months of negotiation, York development firm Royal Square Development & Construction (RSDC) entered into an equitable ownership agreement for the property with its current owner, Hashempour & Sons LLC.
Under the agreement, RSDC takes an ownership stake in the building through Aug. 31 while it looks for a potential buyer with intentions of redeveloping the South George Street property, said Dylan Bauer, RSDC’s president of development. Bauer declined to discuss other details of the deal.  ....
