As India continues to reel under the unprecedented second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria on Monday made a massive statement, saying that to say that the potential third wave of COVID-19 will impact children would be unscientific; at the same time we must prepare.
Dr Guleria said, If we see the two waves (so far), one group that has seen fewer cases or mild cases has been children. The virus is the same. To say that in the next wave the cases will be more in kids does not seem scientifically right. NEW DELHI: Children do face the risk of contracting the coronavirus infection, but it tends to be less severe among them, Anurag Agrawal, director of the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), said on Monday.
Agrawal, whose institute has conducted a countrywide sero survey of employees of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research s (CSIR) sister organisations, said children also act as a backdoor passage for the infection in their parents and grandparents.
