NEW DELHI: Amid rising cases of mucormycosis among Covid patients and those who have recovered from it, epidemiologists on Tuesday advised people to not get panicked by the colour of the fungus causing it, and underlined the importance of analysing the kind of infection, its causes and associated risk-factors.
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said on Monday that 18 states have reported 5,424 cases of mucormycosis, a life-threatening infection, prevalent among Covid-19 patients and those who recovered from the viral disease.

NEW DELHI: There is no reason to believe that children will be disproportionately affected by the coronavirus in the coming weeks and months or in the next wave, the head of a government working group said, but stressed on the need for additional resource inputs to improve the paediatric Covid services.
In an interview with PTI, Dr N K Arora, Chairman of India s Covid-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), said Indian data does not show specific predilection of the currently circulating virus strains either for the youth or paediatric age group. ....

Fungal infection is not a communicable disease : AIIMS director Randeep Guleria after first case of yellow fungus reported in Ghaziabad
The Union Health Ministry today putting a light on the rising fungal infections - black fungus, white fungus and newly detected yellow fungus said that the colour of fungus can be seen differently if it develops in different areas. Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS Delhi today while addressing media said that fungal infection is not a communicable disease and the colour of fungus can be seen differently if it develops in different areas.
Mr Guleria explained, People with low immunity are infected with mucormycosis, Candida and asporogenous infections. These fungi are mainly found in sinuses, nose, bone around eyes and can enter brain, it is also occasionally found in lungs(pulmonary mucormycosis) or in gastrointestinal tract, he added. ....

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday said India has witnessed a steady decline in daily new Covid-19 cases since the last 17 days.
During a press briefing, the Centre said there has been 2.6 times increase in the number of Covid tests done in the past 15 weeks in the country along with a steady dip in the weekly positivity rate reported in the last two weeks.
However, AIIMS chief Randeep Guleria pointed out that several people who have recovered from the infection have observed post-Covid symptoms and there is a need to treat them as well.
If your symptoms persist for 4 - 12 weeks, it is regarded as ongoing post-Covid acute syndrome. If symptoms are seen for more than 12 weeks, it is called post-Covid syndrome or long Covid, the AIIMS chief said. ....
