Pets Will Now Be Welcome on Amtrak's Weekday Acela Trains


Amtrak is making it easier than ever to travel with your furry friends, expanding its pet program to allow four-legged passengers on Acela trains during weekdays.
Dogs and cats up to 20 pounds will be allowed in all cars (except first class and café cars), but must remain in a carrier at all times, according to the company. Amtrak will offer eight pet spaces per departure and one per customer for the cost of $26 per pet or 800 Amtrak Guest Rewards points.
Previously, pets were only welcomed on Amtrak Acela trains on weekends.

Woman Hit, Killed By Amtrak Train In Connecticut

A 22-year-old Connecticut woman was hit and killed by an Amtrak train while allegedly trespassing on the tracks.
Alexandra Trippodo, of Branford, was hit and killed around 1:10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13 when she was hit on the tracks east of New Haven, said Beth Toll, a spokeswoman for Amtrak.
According to Toll, Trippodo was hit by Amtrak Acela train 2248 on its way from Washington, D.C. to Boston, just east of the New Haven station.
 There were no reported injuries to the 137 passengers on board or crew members, she said.
Amtrak Police Department worked with local law enforcement at the Branford Police Department to investigate the incident.  ....

Person struck by Acela train in Branford

BRANFORD, Conn Amtrak says they are investigating after a Branford woman was struck by a train and killed on Saturday afternoon. 
A spokesperson says a person was trespassing on the tracks at approx. 1:10 p.m., when the individual came into contact with Amtrak
Acela train 2248 on its way from Washington, D.C. to Boston.  
There were 137 passengers on board the train; neither they nor the train s crew sustained any injuries, according to Amtrak. Amtrak says Alexandra Trippodo, 22, of Branford, died from her injuries. 
Two other Amtrak trains were temporarily stopped as the Amtrak Police Department worked with the Branford Police Dept. to investigate the incident. The CT Shoreline East line reported a stop in operations shortly after 2 p.m.; operations resumed by 3:45 p.m.  ....
