Frank Ball, Tweed Heads The treatment of Christine Holgate while CEO of Australia Post is nothing short of scandalous. Not only is it a prime example of powerful males bullying a woman who, by leadership, has put Australia Post in a good financial position thereby saving the jobs of thousands of employees; it has brought to light a hidden agenda to hive off profitable sections of Australian Post (ie parcel delivery). On the evidence presented by Ms Holgate to the Senate inquiry it would seem she has been demonised for doing too good a job. A secret ienquiry commissioned by Minister Paul Fletcher (Liberal) has come to light where consultants – at a cost of $1 million – tried to pressure her into making cuts that would have threatened the viability of the whole business. The report has never been made public. ....

Under a $90 million program, people living and working in Benaraby, Bluff, Dingo and Duaringa can look forward to place-based solutions to digital connectivity issues. Flynn MP Ken O’Dowd on Monday announced the details of the project, which will be issued through a range of mobile and broadband services. “I’m thrilled that residents and businesses will enjoy the benefits and opportunities that improved digital connectivity brings,” Mr O’Dowd said. “This project in Flynn will provide people in that community with access to improved broadband services and data, delivering fast, affordable and reliable connectivity. ....

There were other ways to handle it if she had that information and she wanted to raise it with a view to resolving it rather than achieving a political hit,â Fletcher said on Sky News. Kitching, who also welcomed Holgateâs resignation at the time, rejects the suggestion that she loaded the gun. âThe truth of it is that Scott Morrison panicked as he often does, and prioritised politics and was willing to act rashly in order to avoid defending an undoubtedly embarrassing decision by a senior executive working for his government,â she says. ....
Scott Morrison has defended his intemperate language in parliament against Christine Holgate last year, saying he had to protect taxpayers’ money and Labor was calling for her resignation. Pressed to respond to the former Australia Post CEO’s accusations of bullying, Morrison said he regretted the distress his strong words had caused her but he did not see the need to apologise, or to contact Holgate personally. However former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, speaking on Network Ten, said this had been “horrible, misogynistic bullying”, and Morrison should apologise. He said Holgate should be reinstated. Holgate, after appearing before a Senate inquiry, told the ABC on Tuesday Morrison’s October 22 parliamentary performance was “one of the worst acts of bullying” she’d ever seen. She urged him to call her and apologise. ....
