Spearfish torpedoes – which use sonar to home in on targets - are carried by the Royal Navy’s Astute class and Trafalgar class hunter-killer submarines and the nuclear deterrent Vanguard class to neutralise underwater and surface threats.
While Sting Ray torpedoes are deployed on Anti-Submarine Warfare mission, including frigates, Merlin and Wildcat helicopters. They provide a close attack capability which also automatically targets in on enemy threats. ....

BAE Systems has received a £230 million (about $315 million) contract from the Royal Navy to upgrade Spearfish and Sting Ray torpedoes.
Spearfish torpedoes – which use sonar to home in on targets – are carried by the Royal Navy’s Astute class and Trafalgar class hunter-killer submarines and the nuclear deterrent Vanguard class to neutralise underwater and surface threats.
On the other hand, Sting Ray torpedoes are deployed on anti-submarine warfare mission, including frigates, Merlin and Wildcat helicopters. They provide a close attack capability which also automatically targets enemy threats. ....

Jan. 22 (UPI) The British Defense Ministry announced a $137 million contract on Friday for a high-tech surveillance system that could help soldiers to detect enemy targets.
The Dismounted Joint Fires Integrator, with sensor to shooter or detect and destroy thermal imaging technology, will be built by the British subsidiary of the Israeli defense contractor Elbit Systems over five years.

Dorchester business's £25 million MOD contract set to create 73 jobs

A £25 million Ministry of Defence (MOD) contract for innovative minesweeping systems has been awarded to a Dorset company - in moves that will create 73 jobs.
Atlas Elektronik UK (AEUK), based in Winfrith, near Dorchester, has been awarded a contract to deliver three Combined Influence Minesweeping (SWEEP) systems.
The un-crewed minesweepers will be the first of their kind, and will detect and destroy sea mines on dangerous naval operations for the Royal Navy.
Defence Minister Jeremy Quin said: “This next-generation autonomous technology will be instrumental to our goal of protecting the safety and security of our personnel, while reaffirming the UK’s unwavering commitment to improve the safety of international waters.” ....
