First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park hosts Kite Festival and Plant Hike

NEAR ULM â First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park hosted two outdoor activities on Saturday.
The eighth annual Buffalo Kite Festival featured kits designed by Native American artists. Visitors learned about the buffalo art featured on the kites, and have an opportunity create their own kite and watch as it takes flight over the buffalo jump.
Blackfoot tribal member Don Fish performed an opening ceremony to start the activities, and the festival featured original designs from Native artists, including DG House (Cherokee), Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Flathead Salish), Angela Babby (Oglala Lakota), Rabbit Knows Gun (Crow), and others.

GREAT FALLS â Giant Springs State Park and First Peopleâs Buffalo Jump State Park are looking for volunteers to help clean and maintain nature trails.
On May 1st, Giant Springs and Buffalo Jump will host a beginner training session for those interested in volunteering. The training event will acquaint volunteers with the parks, while describing their trail maintenance needs.
âBasically, weâre looking for volunteers because, especially here at Giant Springs, but First Peopleâs Buffalo Jump as well, has an extensive trail network,â said Alex Sholes, manager of Giant Springs State Park. âGiant Springs has nearly 30 miles of trail and itâs a lot for our small staff to maintain, so weâre really hoping to get some help from the public and maintaining those trails.â

First Peopleâs Buffalo Jump State Park, Giant Springs State Park, and Great Falls museums have come together for a week-long scavenger hunt.
The scavenger hunt is to celebrate Earth Day, with the event running Sunday, April 18th, through Saturday, April 24th, at both Giant Springs State Park and First Peopleâs Buffalo Jump State Park.
People who want to participate can scan the QR code at the parks to begin the scavenger hunts and enjoy an hour and a half long self-guided tour. Paper copies of the scavenger hunts are also available upon request.
